Mountain Cinema Club: Foreign Films & Select Films

HISTORY PROFILE

Over fifteen years ago, the Mountain Cinema Club was established to give mountain residents access to foreign and independent films at our local movie theater in Blue Jay.

Ken Carreiro, long time resident, reporter and columnist for the Mountain News, was one of the instrumental people behind the idea of bringing foreign and independent films to the mountains.

From there, the group grew with approximately 70 members and over the years has grown fourfold, necessitating two showings, at 5:00 and 7:30, on the first and third Wednesday evenings during most school months. Members may attend either showing.

The not-for-profit organization was founded by, among others, Darrold Hert and his wife, Judith. When the Herts retired to New Mexico in 1999, club members Helen Richardson and Julia Spelman assumed management of the club.
